On January 1, 2023, I started tracking every new-to-me album that I listened to.
During the pandemic, after years of listening to playlists on shuffle on streaming services, I really wanted to get back into listening to music the way that I did as a teenager: mindfully, by album, with no distractions.
I started collecting vinyl. Listening to records made me start listening actively and loving music in a whole new way, all over again. Then I started listening to jazz, which necessitated keeping lists of what and who listen to, which then necessitated keeping lists what and who I had already listened to.
This site started as a database in Notion and I moved here to WordPress in November 2025. It’s built using:
- BCL Music, a child theme of Twenty Twenty Five, generated using Create Block Theme
- Advanced Custom Fields for a custom hierarchical taxonomy for Albums, a custom non-hierarchical taxonomy for Genres, and custom fields for Favorites and Format
- Animations for Blocks for block animation
- Block Visibility for conditional display of the Favorites star and search bar
- GenerateBlocks for additional responsive styling
- Meta Field Block for displaying Favorites and Format data on the front-end
- Relevanssi for adding Album and Genre data to search
- Simple Custom CSS and JS for styling tweaks
- The Icon Block for music note icons
- WP All Import for the initial import of data from Notion
- Admin plugins
